Hey friends! Early mornings… need I say more? It can be so challenging waking up early if you’re not used to it, but it can be so rewarding! It took me awhile to build the habit but now I can say I wake up early and love my routine. I get my day started early and have so much time left for the rest of the day and don’t have to stress about running out of time! Here, I have outlined 10 things that I have done to help me build this habit and love my morning routine. Let’s not just wake up at 5 AM but own the early hours with purpose, energy, and a touch of flair.
1. Set a Clear Intent the Night Before
The key to conquering early mornings begins the night before. Set a clear intention for why you want to wake up at 5 AM, whether it’s for personal growth, fitness, or simply to savor some quiet time.
- Reflect on your goals before bedtime.
- Write down your intentions for the next day.
2. Create a Consistent Sleep Routine
A restful night paves the way for a triumphant morning. Establish a consistent sleep routine that ensures you get the rejuvenating rest your body deserves.
- Set a regular bedtime that allows for 7-8 hours of sleep.
- Create a calming pre-sleep ritual. Reading, meditation, night time tea, the possibilities are endless!
3. Place Your Alarm Across the Room
Combat the temptation to snooze by placing your alarm where you can’t reach it from bed. This hack ensures you must physically rise to silence that wake-up call.
- Choose an upbeat alarm tone to start your day positively.
- Place the alarm out of arm’s reach from your bed. The key here is to not go back to bed once you grab your alarm.
4. Hydrate Immediately Upon Waking
Kickstart your metabolism and energy levels by drinking water as soon as you wake up. This simple act fuels your body for the day ahead.
- Place a water bottle by your bedside the night before.
- Drink at least 8 ounces of water upon waking.
5. Expose Yourself to Natural Light
Harness the power of natural light to synchronize your internal clock. This strategy tells your body it’s time to rise and shine.
- Open curtains or blinds to let in sunlight.
- Spend a few minutes outside if possible.
6. Move Your Body with Morning Stretching or Exercise
Elevate your energy levels and kickstart your metabolism with gentle morning movements. Whether it’s yoga, stretching, or a quick workout, get that blood flowing.
- Incorporate a 10-minute morning stretching routine.
- Or you can experiment with short, energizing workouts. Do this with a roommate, significant other, family, etc.
7. Mindful Morning Routine
Craft a morning routine that nourishes your mind and body. This mindful approach sets a positive tone for the day.
- Include activities like journaling or meditation. Keep a journal by your bedside so you have it in the morning!
- Take a few moments for gratitude and reflection. This can also be done by journaling or just taking a mental note of the things you are grateful for.
8. Prioritize a Nutrient-Rich Breakfast
Fuel your body with a breakfast that sustains energy throughout the morning. Choose nutrient-dense options that align with your health goals.
- Plan and prepare a balanced breakfast the night before. Meal prepping for the week can also be helpful so you prepare everything one day and have it for the week!
- Incorporate protein, healthy fats, and fiber.
9. Set Morning Goals
Give your early hours purpose by setting specific goals for the morning. This habit directs your focus and provides a sense of accomplishment.
- Outline 2-3 achievable tasks for the morning. When waking up early, it allows us to get a lot more done in the morning. Let’s get those daily tasks done first thing!
