DIY Conditioning Hair Rinse

I use a $1 squirt bottle from Walmart to store my hair rinse. I believe it's for condiments, but it works great for putting the rinse on my hair. Here's what you need: Apple Cider Vinegar Essential oils of your choice (I use lavender and rosemary) Water

In one of my last posts Should You Stop Using Shampoo I discussed my “no poo” experience and my current hair routine. As promised I’m going to show you how I make my easy hair rinse that I use in place of conditioner. (Check out my full hair routine in the post)

This hair rinse only has 3 ingredients and is all natural! Departing from using conditioner can seem scary, but I’ve been using this hair rinse for over 4 months now, and I love it! It tames the frizz and leaves my hair shiny and soft! Plus this stuff costs next to nothing , so you’ll be saving a ton of money (yay!). DIY conditioning Hair Rinse- Life With CassThis hair rinse only has 3 ingredients: apple cider vinegar (ACV), essential oils, and water.

I personally choose to use a mix of lavender and rosemary. It’s a really lovely mix of scents that help to lessen the smell of the ACV.

Note: Don’t worry about any lingering smell from the ACV, it will rinse out.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 15-20 drops of essential oils of your choice (I use lavender and rosemary)
  • 1 1/2 cups of water

Combine all your ingredients in your bottle, and shake it well. Then your ready to use your hair rinse!

How to use this hair rinse:

After you shampoo your hair well, squeeze the excess water from your hair. Then, put the rinse on your hair from about your ears down (avoiding your roots). You can let it sit for a few minutes, or rinse it out immediately. Rinse your hair thoroughly several times.

A few notes: From my experience it is best to avoid using this rinse on your roots because it made mine too greasy. But, feel free to experiment, because all hair types are different. Also, be sure to rinse out the hair rinse very thoroughly so that no vinegar smell lingers. You should be left with no vinegar smell and a light scent from the essential oils. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Shireen! The rinse is awesome for your hair because the acidity in the apple cider vinegar helps balance the ph levels of your hair, keeping it healthy. It also helps to seal the hair cuticle which is why the rinse makes your hair shiny and soft! I use this rinse rather than conditioner because it is so cheap to make and I know the ingredients in it are all natural. Hope this helps 🙂

    1. Hi Shanel! Yes, essential oils definitely help with the vinegar smell. It’s a little different than your average conditioner smell, but as long as you rinse it out several times well, the vinegar smell won’t linger. Hope you get to try it out!

  1. Wow this sounds amazing! I have some apple cider vinegar in fact so I should definitely try this. I used to just add it to my regular shampoo and it did make my hair shiny, but also quite dry. This sounds like a much better way of using it though!

  2. they were playing the “other” American team in the finals, I thought that surely I heard them wrong. And even when an American team wasn’t doing well, like in men’s gymnastics, I still wanted to see them compete. I know the broadcast can’t be all things to all people, but it was still frustrating. I’m glad to hear the daytime broadcasts were better. And yes, one thing NBC did a great job at was capturing the landscape of London. And I love how they used so many historic sites as part of the Olympic action. Thanks for reading!

  4. You can certainly see your expertise within the paintings you write. The arena hopes for more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. Always follow your heart.
